WITH the curtain drawn on another qualifying campaign, Wales Women are left to lick their wounds following a largely positive but equally nonlucrative campaign.

Tuesday night saw Wales close out their campaign with a spirited 3-0 victory over Belarus. The win ensured a third-placed finish for Jayne Ludlow’s side, and meant her team ended the campaign strong despite failing to secure qualification.

Despite failing to secure qualification to next summer’s UEFA Women’s Championships due to Northern Ireland’s 5-1 win over the Faroe Islands, Wales youngster Maria Francis-Jones believes her side can take plenty of positives from Tuesday night’s game.

“The game on Tuesday night has a lot of positives to take from. We won by two extra goals compared to the last time we played them.”

Francis-Jones also believes Wales have grown as a team during the campaign, despite failing to secure qualification.

“As a whole you could say the campaign hasn’t been a success because we didn’t qualify, but we have positives to take from it, such as growing as a team.”

She continued, “We have grown as a team to finish more goals for example.”

“We have pushed teams to their best and challenged them and competed against them.”
