THE University of South Wales first team captain Joe Evans had high praise for staff as he reflected upon his progression as a player.
The Cambrian and Clydach player spoke highly of the USW head coaches, embracing how they had helped him to become the player he is today.
“The standards and facilities at USW are high quality. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to prepare the players for our University games but also off the field we have recovery sessions and physio’s available to get us prepared for our club games on the weekend,” Evans said.
“A lot of praise has to go to the management, the likes of Steve Savage, Jarred Harvey and Lee Kendall for putting these in place which has helped myself and team mates progress as players over the last two years.”
After a successful year of BUCS football, the USW captain earnt plaudits for his solid defensive play throughout the season, with his performances even gaining the player a trial with Cardiff City’s U23 development squad.
“The Cardiff U23’S trial was a great opportunity and experience for myself which all came about through the links with USW and Cardiff.
“I was also selected for the Welsh University side last year which again was a great experience playing at a higher level of football.”
Evans had nothing but praise for his coaches, with club football also playing a major role in how far he has come in his progression as a player.
“My club Cambrian and Clydach have also played a huge role in my progression as a player, the club and the University work together to give me the best opportunity to be available for both teams.”
With the responsibility that comes with being captain, Evans carries his duties well with pride evident in each of his performances for the men’s first team.
If he can continue his level of play from this year and continue to grow even further, then there is no doubt there are more experiences to come playing at a higher level of football for the defensive stalwart.
