NICK Guildford picks up the honour of ‘Fresher of the Week’ after publishing his first article on ExpoSport.

The fresher focused on five young players who will be key to Wales’ successes ahead of the European Championships later this year.

And after the article was published, the fresher exclaimed the feeling of seeing the piece go live.

“It was really exciting to see my first article published on expo and hopefully it’s the first of many!” Guldford said.

The student has enjoyed the course so far but has been held back by the ongoing restrictions that the pandemic brings.

“I have really enjoyed the course so far,” Guildford continued.

“Unfortunately, we have not been able to get out and watch as much live sport and get to the practical side of the course, but it is something I am looking forward to.

“I’ve had fun being able to combine sport, that is huge to my everyday life, and academia.

“Being able to watch a football match and write a report on it after is something I’d love to do daily.”

His favourite part of the course is crafting opinion pieces and he understands that there is a lot more to learn looking forward.

“Opinion pieces have been my favourite part so far as it allows me to project my opinion through topics that I feel passionate about,” Guildford added.

“Before I became a student on the course, I thought I knew everything to do with sport. But seeing the journalistic aspect of sport has given me a whole new outlook.

“I am reading more articles, listening to more podcasts and when I am watching sport, I am thinking about stuff to write about.

“It has really set me up for what I want my future career to be, and that’s anything I can do within sport.”

Guildford’s piece, ‘The young guns Wales will rely on to fire their Euro 2021 finals campaign’, can be found here.
