IN this week’s edition of ‘Breaking Barriers’, the spotlight is on second year student Rhianna Davies.

Rhianna, from Pontypridd, is a part of the Cardiff City faithful and follows her beloved Wales home and away.

She has recently joined the team at the Total Sport YouTube channel and contributes to their ‘Breaking Barriers’ section.

And Rhianna has said that she wants to use the platform to raise further awareness of the struggle’s women in the media face.

“It’s really nice that we’re able to offer a safe platform for women in the sports industry to talk about their struggles and experiences,” Rhianna said.

“We want to raise more awareness with the hope that people listening can relate.”

In the most recent episode, Rhianna was joined by Lincoln City Womens’ press officer Beth Pritchard.

“Breaking Barriers is all about women from different backgrounds who work in sport,” Rhianna continued.

“Having Beth on the podcast was so Important to not only highlight the issues women face, but the struggles of a gay woman in the industry.

But despite the good work of Total Sport and other similar outlets – more still needs to be done.

“More definitely needs to be done to destroy the stigma surrounding women in the sports media industry,” Rhianna added.

“Inevitably the industry is highly dominated by men, but we are seeing more women getting involved.

“Beth touched upon this in the episode, that it’s also down to the women already in the industry to help support each other.”
