CARDIFF Rugby have continued the effort to discover new talent for the Welsh women’s rugby with the skills centres programme well under way.
The scheme was launched by the Welsh Rugby Union and is being implemented by clubs across the country in the search of girls aged 12-18 to grow the next generation of international players.
The scheme has been going since the end of September and will be eight weeks long in total.
Girls’ rugby officer Gavin Gallagher commented on the programme:
“Cardiff Rugby has played a massive part in the picture of the talent ID and the women’s game.
“We cannot thank everyone enough for helping us paint the picture we are trying to develop in women’s rugby”
Rugby officer, Kira Philpott, spoke about the support Cardiff have provided throughout:
“Cardiff Rugby have helped out giving us the great facilities at Cardiff Arms Park, provided great coaches and support staff,”
“They have put the sign up for us and ensured that everyone in the region could join in if they wanted to, they’ve been a great support.”
Other rugby clubs involved have provided similar support in the hope of a bright future for Welsh women’s rugby.
The WRU website provides all the information girls need to get into the sport including a club finder, found in the link below:
