USW head coach Jonathan Jones praised the “character and spirit” of his side after they battled to an important three points against Swansea University.
George Sellick’s early strike put the visitors ahead at half time, before a second half Sam Snaith brace helped USW secure a well earned home victory.
The win was USW’s first of the Bucs season, leaving Jones a very happy man come the final whistle.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the result,” said Jones post-match.
“We knew going into the game that we had perform well in what was a big relegation battle.
“I think our high-level performance came in patches today, there was a good period in the middle, towards the end of the first half, and then in patches throughout the second half.
“It’s been a tough start in terms of results so far this season, but we can certainly see ourselves a work in progress. We were aware with what was at stake today and I’m absolutely delighted with the players’ application and progress.
“Falling behind late on in the first half was disappointing, but the character and the spirit the players showed to regain their foothold in the game was really pleasing to see.

“Like I said earlier, going into the game we made the players aware of the magnitude of the game and the importance of the game, so to come out on top was fantastic. “
Returning to the side following their 3-1 away defeat to Bath last weekend, Snaith led the line for USW for just the second time this season.
And with his brace securing a much-needed win for a team lacking in confidence, Jones was full of praise for the young Penybont FC forward.
“Sam has been an instrumental asset to us this season and that can be seen today. He brings a great wealth of experience from life in the Welsh Premier League and is a great individual to have around the squad.
“He and the rest of the squad have been committed to the training programme we’ve had in the place since the start of this season, and it’s great to finally see their rewards paying off.”
