MANAGER Kathryn Morgan was left frustrated after her side fell to a disappointing 4-1 home defeat to Bath University at the Sport Park.
A brace from visiting striker Mia Blazey cancelled out Brooke Morgan’s early goal for USW, before Bath ensured they took home all three points with late goals coming from Rachael Stevens and Helena Makenow.
Apart from the early goal, Caitlin Davies and Chloe Chivers had the USW’s best opportunities – with the latter’s effort just whistling wide of the post late in the first half.
“We’re going through a tough patch at the minute,” said Morgan post-match.
“We dug in, we worked hard, and we controlled the first 20 minutes really well. After that, I think we took further control and deservedly went in front.
“Second half, we stopped doing everything we did in the first half, and they won the first ball, the second ball, and there was a bit more desire from them, and you could see our heads were going down.
“There were a few errors for the goals which was disappointing as we didn’t want to concede goals in that manner. However, full credit to Bath as they thoroughly deserved the victory today.”
The women’s team have been hit badly with injuries over the last few weeks, and Morgan admits that it has been hard to stay positive with so many changes disrupting the sides momentum.
“It’s been really frustrating with injuries,” she continued.
“I have the utmost admiration for all my players, every single player who went on there today put a shift in for me, and I can’t question their commitment as it was great throughout.
“However, it’s just really frustrating when we’re trying to build a team and trying to build consistency, and then unfortunately, without four or five key players in the game… that’s going to hurt any team.
“So yes, for me, just frustration, and I don’t want the head girls’ heads to go down because we’ve been battling well over the last few weeks.
“We’ve got a big one away to Plymouth next week, so we’ve got to keep our heads up as we know we’re in for another tough game.”
