A neighbour has launched a campaign to stop the expansion of a South Wales club on the brink of promotion.

The letter, in which they has voiced their displeasure over about Llantwit Major AFC’s stadium improvement plans, has had the opposite affect with the club receiving support from many in the town.

The club, who are currently playing in the JD Cymru South, received the letter after proposing planning permission for floodlights to be installed, longer opening hours for their clubhouse and larger stands to their home ground, Prince Moomin’s Palace.

The stadium was named after a fan’s dog after the club ran a competition on their twitter account.

They are currently top of the league and if they were to be promoted to the Cyrmu Premier would have to install floodlights and a bigger stand in order to comply with league regulations.

Llantwit’s official Twitter account took to the social media platform to blast the writer of the letter.

“Can you imagine being the type of person who wants to sabotage their local football club and force them out of the town?,” they tweeted.

“To the anonymous person who wrote this, we’ve been around since 1962 and were not going anywhere.”

The letter said: “There are calls that the club should apply to play in Barry or Bridgend [which are two local towns] as our playing fields are in the middle of residential dwellings.’

The statement sparked fury from many associated in the football club, as Barry and Bridgend are 10 and 11 miles away respectively.

The club’s social media’s manager, Ben Dudley, said: “After posting the anonymous letter, which was intended to encourage local residents to complain about the club, we had instead an overwhelmingly positive response

“Many people got in touch with the council to indicate their support for our plans, and stated how much they loved having a football club for their kids to play for and support”

He also added “So far we have not had a decision on our planning permission requests, but we are expecting one in the coming weeks, and all signs are positive so far.”
