Swansea City’s Michael Obafemi, Ben Cabango and Hannes Wolf scored in one of the most one sided South Wales derby for a generation as they thrashed Cardiff City in their own back yard.
The away side not only left the capital with the three points but they also made history by being the first side to a complete a league double in this tempestuous fixture.
The atmosphere pre match was electric, only cementing the rivalry between these two sides.
The game could not have started much worse for Cardiff with Michael Obafemi tucking away an easy finish at the back post after a combination of good play from Jaime Paterson and poor Cardiff defending.
The rest of the first half was a cagey affair with both sides trying to jostle for superiority, with Swansea coming out slightly on top.
Obafemi could have doubled his tally for the first half if it wasn’t for Cardiff defender Perry NG who’s last gasp tackle prevented the striker from getting a shot away.
Overall, it was a poor first half for Cardiff as their only shot on target came in the 35th minute, and that Joe Ralls effort was straight at Swansea goalkeeper Andy Fisher.
The first half ended to a chorus of boos from the home support, the majority of which seemed to be focused the referee who they felt had been too lenient on Swansea’s apparent time wasting.
The second half saw Cardiff’s defence completely collapsed.
It all started in the 57th minute as defender Ben Cabango drilled in a low shot past keeper Alex Smithies after Cardiff failed to clear their lines from a set piece.
Hannes Wolf inflicted more misery for the home support. His header followed a excellent cross from Cyrus Christie and easily beat a hopeless Smithies.
Following the third goal, scores had decided that they had seen enough much to the amusement of the away support.
Obafemi struck again with his shot from just inside the box flying past the goalkeeper into the top corner of the net.
The game eventually fizzled out with Swansea seemingly happy with the score line as it was and Cardiff lacking the quality to challenge the Swansea defence.
