USW 3rds were no match for Cardiff Met 4ths at the Sport Park, with Ruan Tape and Daf Phillips engineering an emphatic win for the visitors in Aldi Western Tier 3.

Tape scored his first inside a minute as the Archers made the perfect start.

But their lead was quickly eradicated when Tom Williams brought down USW’s Tom Pritchard in the area and Jamie Rathbone converted the equaliser from the penalty spot.

Williams, Met’s player-manager, then made up for his mistake with a fantastic cross-field assist which found Phillips, who stepped past his man and slotted home calmly.

But the visitors’ lead didn’t last long. Pritchard was brought down in the box again, and Rathbone made no mistake again from 12 yards.

Met finished the first half very strongly with three goals in 10 minutes allowing them to take a stranglehold.

Phillips and Tape both bagged their second goals, which built a two-goal lead for the Archers, and then a skilful solo goal from Morgan Mockford made it 5-2 at half-time.

Seven minutes into the second half, it only got worse for the home side as Jac Hoc got amongst the goals with Met’s sixth.

In the 73rd minute, substitute Josh Leake bagged the away side’s seventh and final goal with a clinical poacher’s rebound.

USW have three more games to play, including the trip to Cardiff Met in the last game of the season for the reverse fixture.

Their next match is against Swansea University 2nds.
