USW netball 1sts recovered from an early 6-point deficit to secure a 48-42 win over UWE 2nds at the USW Sport Park.
The victory marked the home side’s fourth success in what has been a great season so far.
USW started slowly and found themselves 15-9 down at the end of the first quarter. Sloppy passing was their main downfall as UWE controlled the ball.
A slew of obstruction and contact penalties against the away side soon saw USW get back into the game and allowed goal shooter Faith Sulway to find her feet and start scoring.
Sulway was the hosts’ standout player for the rest of the game, seemingly catching every pass thrown her way as well as converting 27 out of 41 attempts. Only UWE’s shooter Liv Wilson outscored her with an impressive haul of 33 points.
Wilson was the Bristol team’s bright spot in what was an otherwise scrappy display.
Sulway’s attacking partner Ali Chan’s shooting was automatic, missing just three of a possible 22, with the two linking up extremely effectively to get their team over the line.
The scoreline reflects what was a mostly close affair, but the hosts never looked like losing their lead, which stayed between four and six points for most of the second half.
Five wins in a row is now a real possibility for USW, and if they can emulate today’s performance they will stand a good chance.
