Cardiff Met basketball 2nd 126-41 USW 1st

By Harry Tovey

USW basketball endured a difficult day at Cardiff Met as they were thrashed 126-41 at the Cyncoed campus.

It was an uphill battle before the first whistle as the visitors were without star player Tinashe Masama.

Three Met players reached double figures in scoring, with Ravin Edirimuni the main beneficiary and the man who kick-started the Archers’ early dominance.

Within the first quarter Kian Davies scored half a dozen three-pointers which grew the lead for the home side going into the second quarter to 32. Jodi Nyongera brought USW back into the game by scoring a handful of two-pointers, but they were always adrift.

The second quarter began like the first quarter ended with Archers number 5 Kian Davies being the dominant in attack.

USW managed their  first three-pointer of the afternoon through Ismail Saglamer and their defence was at its best in the second quarter as they stemmed the Archers onslaught in a one-sided game.

It got worse for the visitors as the second half progressed as Connor Plummer-Colom went off with an injured knee.

Saglamer did find his range and built the scoreboard up for the visitors, while Jodi Nyongera and Sevyn Burrows continued claiming two-pointers as USW looked to make the outcome more respectable.

It wasn’t enough as the home side went into a 70-point advantage going into the final quarter.

Julian Grech scored an impressive three-pointer as the home side carried on adding to that scoreboard.

It was a day to forget for USW as their losing streak now stretches to four.
