USW 2nds men’s rugby coach Tom Geere insisted his players produced “a great performance” despite a 34-24 loss to Cardiff Met 8ths.
USW threw away a 17-10 point half-time lead, finishing well beaten after a powerful second half response by the visitors.
But was focused on the positives.
He said: “The performance was really great, especially after the disorganisation midweek trying to scramble for players they did excellent.
“There were a few players playing out of position but they all did brilliantly. You could tell with the camaraderie, they all just wanted to play and work hard.”
“We scored some really good tries but were just unlucky in the end to miss out.”
USW have been unable to pick up a victory so far this season following their defeat to Cardiff Mets, this was however their most encouraging performance yet. Despite remaining winless, the USW Coach suggested his team are a strong group, he claimed:
“The group is full of really nice and top people, and we obviously try and have fun in training,” Geere added
“(The camaraderie) But that comes from the players themselves they all have good personalities and morals. Which is contagious throughout the players, whether it’s the freshers or the third years.
“It was a fair result, they (Cardiff Mets) played really well and scored some great tries.
“At this level of rugby, you’re not going to get Wayne Barnes, or Nigel Owens so no major complaints.
Next up USW travel to face Hartpury College 5ths as they look to pick up their first victory of the season.
Geere will be hoping his side’s spirited performance will inspire a strong finish to what has been an otherwise disappointing campaign.
