USW 3rds coach Ikenna Ukabam said his side’s penalty miss was crucial in their 4-0 defeat to Cardiff Medics.

Midfielder George Hawkins saw his spot-kick saved when USW were 2-0 down – and the Medics went on to increase the damage.

Ukabam said: “We started slowly, and they punished us in the first 10 minutes when they went two goals ahead.

“So I think we need a quicker start next time.

“We worked hard after the first two goals to try and get back in the game, but missed a penalty and then hit the crossbar from the set-piece.

“Ultimately missing those chances cost us at end because if we had got back in it at 21 then could have shifted the pressure back to the opposition.

“We struggled to get that goal and although we came out in the second half to fight, they then punished us and the game just went from there.”

Ukabam also said how his team has a lot of new players this year working together when asked how he can improve the motivation of the team.

He added: “I’ll speak to them. It’s been a tough start to the season
playing together for the first time, so we will try to reason with them in the changing rooms.

“We’ll be back again on Monday to train as normal.”

USW’s next game is on Wednesday 13th November against University of Wales Trinity Saint David Men’s 1sts.
