University of South Wales’ Women’s 1st rugby side are looking to continue their fine start to the BUCS Western 2A season when they welcome the University of West England in a top of the table clash on Wednesday afternoon.
USW head into the game following their convincing 65-0 win over Aberystwyth University last week at Blaendolau Playing Fields.
Meanwhile, UWE will also be keen to build on their good start to the campaign after they co-incidentally came away 65-0 winners when they took on Southampton Solent University last Wednesday.
The home side have already racked up an astonishing points difference of 133 after their first two games this season, a run of form which sees them sit top of the Western 2A league with ten points on the board.
With the visitors currently occupying second in the league table and trailing their hosts by just one point, they will however, be looking to leapfrog their opposition into first when they visit the USW Sport Park.
USW manager, Mark Hutton, has named two changes from the side that came out on top against Aberystwyth last time out. Outside-centre, Carys Rees and right wing, Hatty Braithwate are replaced by Bethan Picton and Rhianna Williams respectively.
Interestingly, Wednesday’s fixture marks just over six years when the two sides last met in the BUCS trophy, back in November 2011, where UWE came away as 10-5 winners in a close encounter.
USW will be feeling confident having received a coaching session from experienced Cardiff Blues women’s coach Lisa Newton on Monday evening, who’s expertise could prove very useful for the hosts going into this week’s clash and for the season ahead.
USW Starting XV: Amy Evans, Stacey Horne, Emily-Jane Ryde, Dione Slade, Lizzie Newell, Keely Ward, Emily Pratt, Georgia Evans; Jasmine Hare, Heather Rees, Emma Owen, Freya Jones (capt), Bethan Picton, Rhianna Williams, Toni Lloyd.
USW Reserves: Emily Perry, Abbie Bird, Megan Harrison, Emily Hartrey, Lucy Sharman.
