USW Women’s 1st netball team triumphed over Aberystwyth Women’s 1st netball team 41-38. USW went into the game on the back of two defeats in the league. Coach Gail Calford had this to say after the game:

“We went into the third quarter with a good strong lead, however I thought the girls started to get tired going into the fourth quarter which made a difference to us.

“In the fourth quarter we made a tactical change which allowed us to bring the game back on track. Overall we are pleased with the win.

“One of the things we have been working on after the first two games was being able to drive forward and take the forward option in games first rather than going square, which is something we have been doing in the first two games in the league.

“We worked hard in training on that on Monday so we will be taking that into the next game against Bristol.”

Calford was asked if there were any aspirations for cup success from the team, after progressing further than they did the previous year.

“We just want to go as far as we can. We know what this team is capable of in the Western Division and we knew Aberystwyth were going to be a tough challenge but we will take anyone who come next for us.”

USW Women’s 1st netball next game is against Bristol University next Wednesday, 31st October.
