By Bobby Jones and Matt Slater

USW and Bath played out a thrilling encounter at the USW sports park, which saw Bath come away with a 31-22 victory.

Although USW suffered defeat, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance heading into next week.

The game started incredibly fast with USW getting off to a quick start by establishing a 3-0 lead thanks to Jess Sommers and Katie Jones.

However, Bath stayed close thanks to Chloe Cornwall and Ash Dickens meaning USW led 4-3 after the first period.

The second quarter was where Bath increased the tempo and managed to put USW under severe pressure.

The game soon was level at 5-5 before Bath took a stranglehold with five goals in a row, thanks again to Cornwall and Dickens who were incredibly consistent all game.

USW showed great spirit and determination and Katie-Leah Clark, who came on for the second period, helped reduce the deficit to 9-12 at the half-time whistle.

As the 3rd quarter began both teams claimed a further three goals to make the score 12-15; USW’s Bethan Honey scored two, with the other being scored by Ashley Russel.

USW found their way back into the tie with two goals from both Honey and Russel, but by the end of the third quarter Bath led 16-18.

During the 4th quarter, Bath extended their lead to 16-22 after three goals from the Goal Attacker. USW’s Goal Shooter, Bethan Honey, then scored 4 goals to make the game 20-25.

But the task of claiming the win proved too much for the hosts.
