USW Women’s 1st goalkeeper Meg Wordingham believes her side are blossoming following a positive start to their Western 1A campaign.

Kaseem Taylor’s team currently sit third in the table, two points behind leaders Southampton Solent University, who they have a game in hand over and face on Wednesday afternoon.

They travel to the south coast looking to build on their obliterating 9-0 victory over the University of Exeter 1st last time out.

“I think with every game, we are progressing,” said Wordingham.

“Obviously, there has been some ups and downs in games but I think the more the season is developing, the more we are progressing as a team.

“Every game we go into, we expect the best from the opposition. We are fully prepared and ready to face whatever comes at us.”

Following the fixture against Southampton, Wordingham and her team-mates turn their attention to the BUCS Trophy as they travel to Jackdaw Lane for a prestigious cup clash against Oxford University 1st.

The second-year student says she feels there is a different approach to the team this season, but insists she is not getting carried away with the cup fixture.

“You treat cup games like a final,” added the shot-stopper.

“But I don’t think reputation comes into it when it’s football. You take every game as it comes and treat it like anything else.

“I think we’ve got a completely different style going on and there are new players coming in who are bringing things into the team.

“The moral is high and it’s just going to go up and up from here.”
