Cardiff University made it six league wins from six as they beat bottom side the University of South Wales to maintain their perfect league form.
The Western 1A Division saw a top against bottom clash, as Cardiff University strengthened their position at the top of the table.
After a shut-out from Cardiff University at the USW Sport Park, here’s a look at the key talking points from the match.
Cardiff University show their top of the table class
It was a superb performance from the visitors and they’ll be happy with their performance today. Abigail Voyce scored an impressive hat-trick, as well as Lilliana Popadec and Patricia Booth both scoring braces.
They set the bar high early on with three tries in the first 10 minutes.
Second time shut-out for USW
This is the second time this season that the University of South Wales have suffered defeat where they haven’t registered a score.
It comes as no surprise as both defeats have come to the two sides at the top of the table, but it may mean more training sessions for the forwards as they try and break down the opposition’s backs.
In fairness to Cardiff University, it was an impressive performance from their backline. USW had some near chances, but couldn’t find a successful route to the try line.
Mistakes prove costly
A big part of what USW did wrong today was not releasing the ball in the ruck quickly enough. Missed tackles allowed the Cardiff University to attack a number of times, with a number of areas exposed.
It’s something to consider for next week’s training session ahead of their trip to London to face Kings College.
In a knock-out cup fixture, USW may be able to experiment against a side playing at a similar level to them.
