Ellis Bellamy was on post-match press duties, speaking about his delight at helping University of South Wales to a 3-0 home victory over Chichester University, and a crucial three points in the BUCS Premier South League.
The 19-year-old’s goal after 50 minutes broke the deadlock and 13 minutes later, his assist for Anthony Gerrard helped the students to a 2-0 lead.
“I just felt three points were crucial really,” said Bellamy. “We just couldn’t afford to get anything less than that.”
“Obviously in the last few performances we thought we were okay, but we didn’t get what we wanted out of the games, and three points is what we needed. That’s all we had to do today and to get it was amazing.”
The former Wales under-17 international has now scored four goals in eight Premier South appearances this season – and is clearly enjoying his time with the South Wales side.
“This league is not like any other really,” he continued. “Everyone is so close to each other, everyone is dropping points, people are getting weird results, but I think if we can get some type of momentum you never know. We’ve just said we’re going to focus on a cup run and hopefully get some momentum from the league now.”
“I thought first half we were really poor. Jarred Harvey (coach) said how poor we were; we all knew, but we took responsibility and that’s what matters. We came out second half and put a performance together which is what we needed to do.”
