THIS April will mark the third annual USW Sport Recognition awards ceremony, hosted at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
The ceremony will see a total of 13 awards, with three nominees competing for each one on Friday April 5.
The event aims to recognise and reward the achievements and efforts of students, staff and other partners involved in USW Sport.
Huw Wilcox, employability and partnerships officer at the USW Sport Park, is heavily involved in the preparation of the event.
He wants to see the awards grow and be promoted to a wider audience.
He said: “We’d like to grow the event from the attendance of 120 last year towards the 200 mark, with supporting students as well as the winners and nominees.”
The showcase will highlight some of the most impressive student performances and achievements over the past year and will be covered by those on the sports journalism course.
Wilcox added: “With the introduction of the Sports Journalism course, it gives us new adventures to look forward to.
“This gives us more opportunity for growth for the ceremony in 2019. It will allow students to have a hands-on approach with the ceremony providing interviews, pictures and articles related to the event and the nominees.”
The event will see a frequent use of social media coverage in order to boost the profile and awareness of the awards and the achievements.
Wilcox added: “This is showcasing our academic year of sporting excellence.
“The success with the partners we have at the USW Sport Park such as the FAW Trust, Welsh Rugby Union, the English Football League Trust and local authorities is vital to creating an amazing sporting atmosphere.
“We also have amazing sponsors that help us on the way.”

Last year’s awards saw some phenomenally talented individuals praised for their work and ability, and this year will be no different.
