UNIVERSITY of South Wales Mens’s 5th coach Tim Heal praised his team’s second-half performance as they battled back to earn a point against Cardiff University Men’s 5th.
The hosts had taken the lead through Connor Brennan’s strike, but the visitors hit back with two goals of their own – both from Connor O’Boyle – to take a 2-1 half-time lead.
Analysing his team’s first-half display, Heal said: “We weren’t at our best in the first-half, we started slowly, similarly to last week.”
USW appeared revitalised in the opening stages of the second-half, keeping the ball and creating a handful of good chances as they searched for a second goal.
Heal described what the team’s approach was during the break, and how he saw them respond.
“During half-time the boys had words with themselves. We sorted ourselves out in the second-half, particularly in the first ten minutes of the restart.”
USW’s equaliser came from a swinging cross which the Cardiff defence failed to deal with, presenting Brennan with the opportunity to head in for his second goal.
When asked for his assessment of the result, Heal said: “If you look at the game overall, I think we should have won it.”
The Treforest-based side lost 3-1 to the University of Gloucester last week, and Heal hopes that his team will be able to replicate their second-half showing in the games to come.
“I think our performance in the second-half was one that most of the lads can look at and feel like it’s one that we want to repeat, particularly after last week.”
