Welsh football roundup: Wrexham bring in Blackpool striker as Dean Keates looks to strengthen

PROMOTION-CHASING Wrexham travel to face Craig Harrison’s Hartlepool United on Saturday afternoon as they look to keep their top-three finish dream alive.

Dean Keates’ side will be hoping to build on their convincing 4-0 win over relegation-threatened Torquay United last time out.

The Dragons sit fourth in the National League table, and will be looking to leapfrog Sutton United into third place this weekend.

Former New Saints striker Scott Quigley became Keates’ latest addition this week as he joined on loan from Blackpool for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old has found first team football hard to come by under manager Gary Bowyer, and will aid Wrexham in their push for promotion to the Football League.

In the Championship, Cardiff City will also be hoping to make it three wins from three when they travel to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Bluebirds progressed through to the FA Cup fourth round on Tuesday as Junior Hoilett’s second-half brace saw Neil Warnock’s side come away as 4-1 winners against Mansfield Town.

Warnock’s men will now host runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City in round four of the competition.

Premier League strugglers Swansea also ensured they would join Cardiff and Newport in the fourth round as they saw off Nuno Santo’s high-flying Wolves.

Wilfried Bony and the recently rejuvenated Jordan Ayew were both on hand for the Swans as they edged past the Championship leaders.

Speaking about Ayew’s stunning solo goal, manager Carlos Carvalhal said: “I’m very happy because he deserves it.

“He scored in the last game against Newcastle, and he is a player, a fighter, a team worker. He’s a player I like.”

The Swans now turn their attention back to the Premier League as they host Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium on Monday evening.
