Report: USW 1st 10-14 Cardiff Met 5th

by Matthew Williams

A STRONG start from the visitors ensured the hosts USW struggled to get a real foothold in the early exchanges.

USW’s start to the game was made more difficult, as Cardiff Met opened the scoring with a fine finish after just four minutes.

USW weren’t given much time to breath either, as Met claimed another just a minute later. USW just couldn’t seem to keep Met at bay, as the visitors scored another after only six minutes.

USW looked as though they needed a bit of inspiration after missing a glorious chance in the tenth minute. Moments later they got exactly that, with a goal from their dominant number 6. A great shot going in off the post.

Any sudden positively was cut short fifteen minutes in when Cardiff Met added yet another, to bring an end to a dismal opening quarter for USW.

USW’s start to the second quarter appeared to be heading the same way as the first, as a further three goals in the opening six minutes of the second quarter ensured that USW had a mountain to climb.

Out of the ashes USW showed a sudden resurgence as they hit back with two goals in 3 minutes from their number 6, to breath new life into the team before the break.

USW began the second half in the same grain of form as they finished the first, with two smart finishes from their number 4 and 15 respectively.

Just as USW seemed to be regaining a real foothold in the game, Cardiff Met hit the hosts on the break to score two more goals either side of a superb USW team goal. The latest goal bringing further daylight between the two local rivals.

USW still refused to give up, as their player of the match number 6 set up and scored another to give USW a glimmer of hope. However, a further two goals from the visitors in a 3 minute spell did well to dampen spirits.

However with less than ten minutes on the clock, USW demonstrated that they’re going to be a tough task for any team in the league this season. The hosts rallied to pull back another two goals from their brilliant number 6, to end the game very positively.

Final score: USW 10-14 Cardiff Met
