HEAD coach Lee Kendall had words of encouragement for his players, despite a 4-2 defeat at the Sport Park.

Reigning champions USW were depleted against the always strong Cardiff Met, but might have had a share of the spoils had it not been for errors committed by home goalkeeper Morgan Davies.

Kendall refused to be downbeat, saying: “We came with a game plan, I thought we executed it 99.9% of the time in the first half.

“In the second half we pushed to try and get some goals but Cardiff Met’s quality came through.”

USW fielded a number of new players because of unavailability, including striker Michael Wicherek who usually turns out for the thirds.

Kendall added: “It’s great to see some new faces. Mike popped up with a goal and impressed.

“The new players did brilliantly, they’ve come in out of the cold when they haven’t really had the opportunity to train with us.

“Hopefully, if they can come into the programme and go through what we go through in our training, then it gives them a great opportunity.”

Looking ahead to next week when his side will face Bath, Kendall said: “We’ve got to look forward to next week, a huge game at our place.

“Today is the first time we’ve lost in almost two years at home which is hard to take.”
