UNIVERSITY of South Wales Women’s Rugby 1st take on Southampton and will be seeking revenge this week.

The Hampshire side defeated USW in the first game of the season, however USW are in red-hot form.

Despite a loss to rivals Cardiff Met two weeks ago, they have won three of their last four games, scoring over 50 points in two of those wins.

To make it three wins on the bounce, they’ll have to defeat the team that have already got the better of them this season.

Southampton bounced back last week with a 24-19 win over King’s College 1st. Back to back defeats came at the hands of Cardiff Met and Gloucestershire prior to the win.

The previous game between the two was a cagey affair, with the away side eventually winning 24-15 in Treforest.

USW’s recent run of form will give them confidence when they head to the South coast.

Captain Keely Ward has praised the high spirits amongst the camp

“We’re all really positive after the first round of the cup being a win, and really [we] want to keep this ball rolling into the league” she said.

“It was out first away game, so it allowed us to all bond as a team and that’s what university rugby is all about.

“We’re just all really enjoying playing, training and everything that comes in between.

“The intensity is kept high throughout training and this is what we need to be bringing into our games. We saw glimpses of this on Wednesday.”

Kick off in Southampton is at 2:00 PM
