UNIVERSITY of South Wales Men’s 1st take on Durham University Men’s 1st in a crucial quarter final encounter.
With both team’s season on the line, it promises to be a thrilling match-up between the two sides.
USW go into the game after securing a stoppage time victory against Scottish side Stirling. It was a great team performance from the home side, knowing that defeat would end their season.
Durham have not played a fixture since January 31st and could be rusty heading into the cup tie. USW will certainly hope this is the case and will look to benefit from playing regularly while also being in great form of late.
Durham who, like Stirling, play in the BUCS Premier North League, finished second – just three points off eventual winners Nottingham Trent University. They will be confident going into the game, mainly because of their home record which included scoring 13 goals at home in just five games this season.
The last meeting between these two teams was once again in the quarter final of the cup last year, and USW will be hoping history repeats itself as they came out 4-1 winners on that day.
For USW they will be relishing the challenge of keeping their cup hopes alive on the road. Confidence is sure to be high within the camp after their latest victory.
USW have proven to win in multiple ways this season, whether it was simply outscoring their opponents, coming from behind or winning with 10 men. They have done it all against some extremely good competition and know that victory will get them one step closer to regaining the title they won two seasons ago.
